Ed, a native of York ME, studied at the Worcester Center for Professional Crafts. In 1994, upon completion of the intense Comprehensive Fine Woodworking & Furniture Design Program, he opened his own company, Edward Alexander Design, a custom woodworking shop, specializing in high-end millwork, cabinetry & furniture.
In 2020 EAD Woodwork LLC was formed to incorporate the long standing business of EADesign with the long awaited expansion into Urban Lumber. Connecting with local tree fellers, arborists and home owners to source fallen, discarded and salvaged, sustainable specialty wood, EAD Woodwork now mills and kiln dries its own material. "We call it ‘specialty’ because EVERY TREE HAS A STORY and every story is unique. We provide a second chance for these otherwise forgotten trees by quickly turning them into project-ready kiln dried lumber, so we can build and create with “good wood”, from trees that have sustained for generations, that now in their new form will once again be appreciated and valued for many more to come."
In November 2023, EAD Woodwork opened a retail gallery in downtown Portsmouth, NH, URBAN, to highlight not only the beautiful, original, hand crafted furniture pieces, home decor and cabinetry, but to push the initiative of sourcing and building with local and sustainable material.
